Browser Issues

Update: apparently the latest IE can deal with the brokenness of Blogger. I just went through and pruned the HTML by hand for the last month's worth of posts. I hope it helps. From now on I am not trusting Blogger's "Compose" mode and will craft the HTML by hand. Sigh.

I keep hearing from people who say that the blog is not showing up in their browser, by which I think they mean the ridiculous thing that is Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Apparently, Blogger has done something that doesn't work with IE. I have tested it in Firefox, Chrome and Safari and saw no issues, and getting things to work with IE is a waste of time. So, don't use IE. It's broken.

What's your problem? Works fine in IE9/Win7 for me.

Amen. And the parts that aren't broken are going to tried for Crimes Against Humanity.

I suspect their issue relates to iFrames. Try visiting http://cluborlov.blogspot.com and the site should work. :)

Well, it's not exactly IE ;-)
Testing http://cluborlov.blogspot.fr/2012/09/meanwhile-in-oklahoma.html, I can see a starting comment tag just after the post image, in a style tag, with no comment-end tag...
See line 447+ :
<style type="text/css">
<!--
@page { margin: 0.79in }
P { margin-bottom: 0.08in }
</style>
Everything after that, starting from "[<i>This is a guest post from Bonnie.</i>]<br />", is not displayed...
This happens for me with Chromium 6.0 and Android 2.3 native browser. It does display on Firefox 3.5.
I've seen that in many recent posts with an starting image, but not all.
HTH !

You can open cluborlov.com in a read articles only mode, using Safari. To read and post comments, you must be at cluborlov.blogspot.com

I suspect this is true of most browsers, but unlike the fellow we once met who had never left San Francisco but still proclaimed that it was the best place in the world to live, I don't know, having not used the other ones.

I understand it is now Googles policy to ignore IE, as far as browser support goes. As a long-suffering programmer, I welcome this move.

So, to all those using IE: it's time to get a browser!

Okay, my problems have been with Firefox, not the Evil Microsoft Product -- but by going to cluborlov.blogspot.com I am now, once again able to post comments, yay!

Is this part of an ineptly-coordinated establishment attack on nonstandard thinking on the net, or just more evidence of growing ineptitude throughout the system?

I've been using IE8 and I haven't had any problems. I can't vouch for earlier IE versions.

Whatever you've done Dimitry, the links to the comments for all the posts no longer work for me in Safari 5.1.7 for OS X. Whether that is due to your html editing or not I can't say. I will stipulate however that Safari for Mac is definitely broken and has been since 5.0. To see the comments now it is necessary to right click the "comments" link and open in a new tab/window.

I had been going to the cluborlov.com address and unable to expand the post or add a comment with any of Safari, Firefox or Chrome (on both Mac & Win).

But using cluborlov.blogspot.com seems to fix it all. (if it were my site, I would probably do a browser redirect from cluborlov to the full URL, just to get it working for more people)

I see my next problem will be in another 3 months I won't be able to prove I'm human, the capchas are just getting impossible to read. :-)

I use Firefox 15.0.1 browser and have never had any problems

I use Firefox only, for years. IE is a waste of space - always has been.

IE...oh yeah...that windows thing..
Switched to MAC and Firefox years ago!
Yeah the capchas are basically unreadable to me too.Why so difficult?

First IE drove me crazy (years ago). Switched to Firefox, which was good for a while, then it it became unusable. Moved to Chrome, which was very fine up until recently (it now works very poorly). My latest browsers are Dolphin on Android and K-Meleon on Windows.

Life in the 21st century!

I draft blog posts in http://www.kompozer.net/ which also means I have a local archive of at least decent drafts. A lot easier than putting in tags by hand.

Just so everyone knows -- Google is dropping support for IE8 officially on Nov 15: http://goo.gl/wwj2q

... but that's not to say things won't be squirrely ahead of time.

Also, IE8 has a "compatibility" setting that makes it behave like IE7.

Also, both IE7 and IE8 will kick into "quirks" mode depending on how a page's HTML code is written (specifically the doctype for whoever cares). The latest version of HTML automatically kicks these into quirks mode; and also includes numerous features neither browser can recognize. Bottom line: if/when Google changes the base HTML for Blogger, these very kinds of issues will happen with IE7 & IE8.
